SUMMARY IN ENGLISH


The Centre for Arctic Medicine (CAM) is an umbrella organisation, acting within the structure of the Thule Institute, for networking and developing circumpolar health research performed in the focus area of Northern Issues at the University of Oulu. The main activities of CAM are coordination of the Reserach Programme of Circumpolar Health, the Master's Program of Circumpolar Health and Wellbeing, and the Graduate School of Circumpolar Wellbeing, Health and Adaptation. In addition, CAM has representatation in international scientific organisations and active collaboration with universities and research institutes both on national and international level. CAM also represents the University of Oulu in the International Association of Circumpolar Health Publishers that publishes the International Journal of Circumpolar Health.

Founded in 1969, the CAM has its origins in the Nordic Secretariat of Arctic Medicine, which was integrated into the University of Oulu in 1996 and became a part of the Thule Institute in 2001. Our mission is to activate and coordinate high-level international research in the fields of health and wellbeing that is unique and particularly relevant to habitants of circumpolar north.

The Centre for Arctic Medicine is located at Thule Institute, which has its premises at the Linnanmaa campus area of the University of Oulu.
